From a new machine to installed agents in four commands

Everything runs from the CLI. The dashboard is where you see your catalog, your devices, and your plan.

~
$ npm i -g @skillmanager/cli
$ sm --help
Usage: skillmanager [options] [command]
SkillManager CLI: install AI agents into your coding tools
Commands:
loginLog in to SkillManager via browser (device flow)
logoutLog out and remove saved credentials
whoamiShow current user info (email, plan, status)
install [options]Install agents into your project
update [options]Update installed agents to latest versions
list [options]List installed and available agents
remove [options] <slug>Remove an installed agent

Predictable on every machine

The CLI only touches the files it manages, and every change can be previewed first.

Your edits stay yours

sm install records a content hash for every file it writes. If you changed one, it asks before replacing it. In scripts the file is skipped unless you pass --force.

~/projects/acme-api
$ sm install
┌ SkillManager Install
│
◆ .claude/agents/code-reviewer.md has been locally modified. Overwrite?
│ ● Yes / ○ No
└

Preview before writing

--dry-run lists every file that would be created or updated, and writes nothing.

~/projects/acme-api
$ sm install --dry-run --tools claude
● Dry run (no files will be written):
create .claude/agents/code-reviewer.md
create .claude/rules/typescript-standards.md
● 2 agent(s) would be installed.

Every machine in one list

The dashboard shows where the CLI is signed in and when each machine last used it. Revoke one and it is signed out right away.

Agents, skills, and rules

The catalog holds three kinds of items. sm install writes each kind where the tool expects it.

  • AgentA focused assistant your tool can hand work to.code-reviewer
  • SkillA procedure the assistant follows when a task calls for it.api-designer
  • RuleStandards applied to the code it writes.typescript-standards
--global
Installs into your home directory instead of the current project.
--yes
Skips the prompts. Without a terminal attached, the CLI prints one plain line.
sm remove <slug>
Deletes an item's files and takes its section out of shared files.

Installed where each tool looks

Claude Code and Cursor get one file per item. Codex and Gemini CLI each read a single shared file, so SkillManager writes a marked section there and leaves the rest of the file alone.

Where sm install writes agents, skills, and rules for each tool
ToolAgentsSkillsRulesHow it is written
Claude Code.claude/agents/<name>.md.claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md.claude/rules/<name>.mdOwn file
CodexAGENTS.mdAgents, skills, and rulesMarked section
Cursor.cursor/rules/<name>.mdcAgents, skills, and rulesOwn file
Gemini CLIGEMINI.mdAgents, skills, and rulesMarked section

Shared files stay yours

Each item in AGENTS.md or GEMINI.md sits between its own start and end markers. Content outside the markers is never touched, and running sm install again replaces only that block.

Common questions

Which coding tools are supported?
Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Gemini CLI. sm install asks which ones you use, or you can name them with --tools claude, codex, cursor, gemini.
Where are the files written?
In the project you run sm install from, or in your home directory with --global. Claude Code gets files in .claude/agents, .claude/skills, and .claude/rules. Cursor gets .cursor/rules/<name>.mdc files. Codex and Gemini CLI get a marked section in AGENTS.md and GEMINI.md.
What happens to files I edited?
SkillManager records a content hash for each file it installs. If a file changed since then, sm install asks before overwriting it. When there is nobody to ask, as in a script, the file is skipped. Pass --force to overwrite it anyway.
How many machines can I connect?
One on the Free plan. To switch computers, open Devices in the dashboard, revoke the current machine, then run sm login on the new one. Pro has no device limit.
How many agents do I get on Free?
Up to 10 Free agents. Pro unlocks the full catalog, including Pro-only agents and packs.
How do I remove an agent?
Run sm remove <slug>. Its own files are deleted and its marked sections are taken out of shared files, leaving the rest of those files unchanged.
How do I cancel Pro?
Open Billing in your dashboard and go to the Stripe billing portal to cancel or change your payment method.
Can I publish my own agents?
Not yet. Publishing agents and earning from their usage is coming soon on Pro. Free stays focused on installing from the catalog.
